1. How did you and your family decide on this cruise?

“We knew we wanted to be away over Christmas this year. Our oldest is a junior, so she’s soon off to college. We wanted something different, and I gave the kids two options: Hawaii or Europe. They chose Europe and we landed on AmaWaterways’ Best of Holland & Belgium (Festive Delights). When I told them the region is known for fries, chocolate, waffles, mussels, and beer they were all in. Both of my kids wrestle and are in season right now—maintaining weight is important and they lucked out with a longer winter break and the opportunity to indulge over the holidays!”

2. What was everyone’s favorite onboard experience?

“We missed out on making Christmas cookies at home this year, so my personal favorite was gingerbread decorating. I loved having the gingerbread made already—we got to decorate and then walk away from the mess (and we even got my husband to decorate). My son Zayne loved the heated pool (even though it was frigid outside), and my daughter Gianna was happy she could get a massage. My husband Bobby really enjoyed the chef’s table—an excellent meal!

3. And your best experiences while on shore?

“Hiring a private guide in Ghent. I knew my family would not enjoy a lot of group tours with the cruise—we are a bit spoiled when it comes to travel! Gianna and I got off the ship early one morning and wandered the quiet streets, visited Castle of the Counts, and then met Bobby, Zayne, and our beer tasting guide. She was great and prepared food pairings and non-alcoholic drinks for the kids. Afterward, we wandered through the Christmas market and I had the best raclette sandwich ever! Something about hot cheese on a frigid night after sipping Belgian beers all afternoon really hit the spot. Zayne especially loved tasting the NA beers.”

4. Any surprises?

“The average age onboard was a lot lower than I expected, including another family with kids younger than ours, a few younger couples and some families with young adult children. I have been on river cruises for work recognition trips, but this was my first as a vacation and I was amazed at how relaxing it was. We never felt rushed, guilty for sleeping in, or hurried to get off the ship on the days we did our own thing. It truly was like a floating hotel.”

5. What are you still thinking about, now that you're home?

“Chocolate! Belgian chocolate is the best. And, the time spent together experiencing a new destination with little expectation, plus plenty of time to wander, laugh, and grow as a family. We also decided to pick out one gift from the markets for each other to open Christmas morning. That was a bit more difficult as there was more food than gifts, but it really took the consumerism pressure of Christmas off our minds! I would skip gifts and do experiences again in a heartbeat.”

6. What are your top tips about this experience?

“Pack plenty of layers! It’s colder but well worth the scarves, hats, and gloves to be in Europe over the holidays. The lights, markets, and scents make it magical—and like nothing we have at home in the U.S. For families, some of the AmaWaterways ships have connecting cabins which was great for us, but take note: These need to be booked well in advance. Additionally, arriving a few nights ahead of the cruise is wise to get over jet lag and have extra time in Amsterdam. Finally, planning private tours makes the trip special for your family. We enjoyed the Beer Tour in Ghent and a private guide and waffle making class in Brussels—all well worth it!”

Just Back From … Italy’s Puglia Region

WhirlAway’s Sara Samuel and her husband recently spent 10 magical days exploring Italy’s Puglia and the neighboring Basilicata region—a trip that had us all staring in awe (and jealousy) at her Instagram posts.

Nestled in the heel of Italy, these spots have long been Italian favorites and are now drawing travelers from around the world. But visit in the fall or winter, and it still feels like you have them all to yourself. Sara says it was nearly impossible to choose favorites—and she could easily share dozens more—but here are the places and experiences she loved most.

The Florence of the South
"Many of Italy’s enchanting cities have become overrun with tourists, but Lecce feels authentic, offering a genuine sense of place without the crowds. Nicknamed the ‘Florence of the South,’ the city has an elegant yet friendly feel and the Baroque architecture is spectacular. It’s extremely walkable with lovely streets, lively piazzas, Roman ruins, artisan shops, and excellent dining options. The way the city glows at sunset is captivating and I highly recommend experiencing it with an aperitivo from a rooftop.”

A Perfect Seaside Town
"Otranto is made up of narrow, winding, whitewashed lanes with one charming shop or trattoria after another. There’s a promenade along the waterfront, lined with spirited outdoor cafes and bars. Locals bask in the sun, cruise from the marina, and fish off the pier. The water is utterly spectacular—a vibrant turquoise that resembles Caribbean hues. This is a place made for relaxing, but if you’re looking for some history, check out the remarkable 12th century Tree of Life mosaic floor in Cattedrale di Santa Maria Annunziata.”

An Absolute Gem of a Hotel
“There’s one very good reason to visit the village of Bernalda in the Basilicata region: the Palazzo Margherita. Built in 1892 by the Margherita family, it was purchased in 2004 by Francis Ford Coppola, whose grandfather was born in Bernalda. The restored 19th century palazzo has only nine suites so it feels less boutique hotel and more like the villa of a wealthy relative you wish you had—total low-key luxury. We had a magical dinner in the garden and took a fun pasta-making class, but the most memorable experience was a private screening in the elegant screening room-salon. You select your movie and with the touch of a button, the screen comes down and the chandelier retreats into the ceiling. The collection of movies, which of course features Coppola films, is curated by the famous director himself, and during our stay he was seen snacking in the kitchen and wandering about the garden.”

The City of Ceramics
“You should only visit Grottaglie if you love ceramics. And if you do, wow, what an experience! The area is surrounded by small caves and ravines, where clay is abundant. As early as the 13th century, the locals started making ceramics and the tradition still thrives today. With over 50 ceramic studios and shops, a visit can be a little overwhelming, but now I know all the secrets! We visited the famous Ceramiche Nicola Fasano and were given a tour of the workshop by Nicola himself. The process remains largely handcrafted and watching the skill and speed of the artisans up close was amazing. Fortunately, the shops all offer shipping so you don’t have to feel limited by the size of your carry-on luggage. From Fasano, I chose several platters and serving pieces in the region's traditional splatter design, as well as a beautiful large, lidded piece decorated with pomegranates. And at another shop, I chose some sculptural pieces in a whitewash glaze.”

Ricotta That Has Ruined All Other Ricotta
“In Puglia, the town of Alberobello is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its unique trulli— whitewashed, dry-stone houses with conical roofs. Yet my favorite experience there was visiting a traditional masseria where they raise cows and produce incredible cheeses. These were some of the happiest, cleanest cows I’ve ever met! We tried their fresh ricotta (which has ruined all other ricotta for me) and heavenly burrata which tasted like nothing we get here. The milk there is minimally processed, has a higher fat content, and you eat the cheese within hours of it being made. We also learned how to make and tie fresh mozzarella, which was easier than I thought it would be. The day ended by sampling an extensive selection of their cheese, accompanied with rosé wine also produced at the masseria .”

The Best Focaccia on Earth
“ Galatina wasn’t on our itinerary, but we had a great guide who knew we’d appreciate this authentic spot. The highlight is expected to be the 14th century Basilica di Santa Caterina d’Alessandria and its beautiful frescos. They were impressive, but my favorite memory of the day was tasting the best focaccia known to man. A very close second was trying the town’s famous pasticciotto , a warm pastry, filled with silky custard—they are surprisingly heavy for their size. We also loved our curious visit to a small museum that’s preserving the ritual of tarantismo , a folk tradition of music and dance that’s believed to cure the bite of a tarantula!”

’Tis the Season for Travel!

It’s that time of year when festive getaways are all the buzz, and this holiday season is a great time to start thinking about next year’s greatest escapes.

In 2025, WhirlAway planned dozens of amazing vacations for the holiday season, and we’re sharing a few of our favorites. Consider this your cheat sheet to the dreamiest destinations, including a sun-kissed sojourn to Costa Rica, a multi-gen escape to South Africa, an Antarctica cruise, and the best of Turks and Caicos, and London. Who: A mother and her two teens.

Client Wish List: A warm-weather destination offering nature, adventure, wildlife, and a sense of culture.

Where To: They chose Costa Rica because it checked all the boxes. Wanting a mixture of different experiences, hotels, and geography, WhirlAway selected three unique Costa Rica stays: 1) Pacuare Lodge, known for its immersive rainforest experience, Indigenous cultural experience, waterfall hikes, and amazing white-water rafting. 2) Hacienda Alta Gracia, an Auberge Property and luxury retreat set on a 180-acre estate with the perfect blend of nature, equestrian experiences, and world-class spa treatments. 3) Arenas Del Mar. a luxury eco-resort that combines rainforest and beach. Who: An adventurous, active couple.

Client Wish List: They always wanted to experience Antarctica, and initially, began planning the trip on their own. They decided to work with WhirlAway for more insider knowledge and expertise in the area.

Where To: The proverbial “polar plunge,” cruising south with Abercrombie & Kent. Not your typical Antarctic cruise, this experience involved venturing off the beaten path, with visits to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.

The Why: Antarctica topped their lifelong bucket list!

Who: A family of six, including four younger adults, who wanted a warm-weather escape to beat the midwinter blues.

Client Wish List: Warm and relaxing was the order of the day, but with active pursuits (hiking, boating, water sports) on tap, too. Additionally, they wanted to stay in a house rather than a hotel.

Where: They landed on Turks & Caicos because it allowed for a non-stop flight, a private home stay, plus beautiful beaches. Villa Alexis on Chalk Sound was just what they were looking for.

The Why: This family had worked with WhirlAway previously on a family trip, and were confident in a seamless travel experience. They wanted an island that was easy to navigate, and with plenty of dining options. They knew WhirlAway would know how to match what they were looking for in both a destination and accommodation.

Who: A multi-generational group vacation for 10 travelers, including grandparents and their two daughters’ young families (with kids ranging in age from 10 to 18). The grandparents had always wanted to travel to Africa, and decided that now was the perfect time to go.

Client Wish List: One of the daughters follows the Motherchic on Instagram and was interested in a similar safari experience, so she referred her parents to WhirlAway. Comfort, safety, and excellent wildlife viewing were important, as were five-star accommodations.

The Why: South Africa is the perfect country to experience as a family. There’s something for everyone, and for grandparents to experience the wonder and awe of safari with their grandkids is truly special. South Africa is also relatively easy to get to, while traveling within the country is also easy. WhirlAway is best known as safari experts, with nearly 20 visits collectively by the team. We know how to execute the trip of a lifetime!

Who: A family of four, including parents and their two college-aged children.

Client Wish List: They requested a short-notice trip to London during Festive season (after Christmas). They wanted to see the typical sites, but with expert local guides who could share authentic stories and lesser-known bits of history. The Churchill War Rooms, “Behind The Glass” (live performers placed inside window-style displays), and a walking food tour of Spitalfields Market were trip highlights.

Where: Central London—a safe, walkable location where the kids could explore on their own. WhirlAway recommended a five-star, luxury boutique hotel for its charm, location, excellent daily breakfast (included, thanks to WhirlAway’s Signature Travel Network partnership), and commitment to exceptional service. They stayed in a two-bedroom suite and were amazed by how special the entire staff made them feel.

The Why: The parents wanted to give the kids a memorable introduction to Europe, starting with London. 1. Cooking with a Local Family in Naxos

“This is the type of place where the son of the owner welcomes you with an aperitif and freshly made tzatziki and pita, then his father takes you to the farm to show you where all of the ingredients are sourced. Then his mother interrupts our tour, saying, ‘Stop talking, it's time to cook,’ and she takes you around back into her little kitchen. Long tables are set up for our cooking class. Her sister is helping her teach the class and her nephew is cleaning all the bowls and utensils. The cooking class wasn't just a hands-on experience—it was to see the way that the entire family works together. They can't wait to help you to not only taste, but experience what it's like to cook real Greek food. We made tzatziki, meatballs, zucchini balls, lamb shank with stuffed vegetables. Not to sound quaint, but you just felt good eating this food.”

2. A Meander Through Paros

“Paros is so picturesque, it’s one of the most Instagrammed locations in Greece. All the houses are required to be white by law, and they’re set against the colorful flowers and colorful boats—everything is so beautiful. It’s so spectacular for many reasons. Yes, the wine and the seafood, but even the shopping feels more special than in other port towns—these shops do not feel like souvenir shops. Another perfect way to spend the day there is on a sail to Antiparos. You can stop at the Blue Lagoons for swimming, have a late lunch, and just float in the water. And all of these boats have flotation devices not just for safety, but for relaxation.”

3. A Stay at Cape Sounio on the Athenian Riviera

“Usually you have to fly into Athens before you get to the islands, so most people think of Athens as your starting point. They stay there for a night, they see the Acropolis, and then they move on. But the Athenian Riviera is another really incredible opportunity just 45 minutes outside of Athens. I stayed there at the end of my trip rather than in Athens. The minute I arrived, my whole heart rate came down. The beaches are amazing, the wine is amazing, the spa and treatment rooms are amazing, even the breakfast is amazing. It’s a great destination for wellness—Gwyneth Paltrow recently stayed there too!”

Patty Jefferis closes her epic chapter with an epic Mediterranean journey.

On the eve of her retirement party, Patty Jefferis, founder of WhirlAway Travel, is reflecting on her most recent adventure: a voyage through the Eastern Mediterranean with Tauck. After spending the past 40 years curating journeys for clients, this adventure was all her own. Aboard Le Bougainville , a sleek Ponant yacht chartered exclusively by Tauck, she explored Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, and Malta. Read on for all her dreamy moments.

Why did you choose this Mediterranean sailing? “It was really the destinations I chose—places I hadn’t been before. I wanted to explore the eastern Mediterranean, particularly off the coast of Italy. The itinerary included Elba, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, and Malta.”

What were your top three highlights? “Wow, that’s hard to answer! I really liked Corsica—we explored the hill town of Bonifacio there and it was just beautiful. Sardinia was also beautiful, and in Sicily, the highlight was visiting the village where The Godfather was filmed. We even met the local baron! But I must say, Malta probably was my favorite. I would have loved to stay longer and visit Gozo and the other little islands in the chain.”

What stood out about traveling with Tauck? “They do a phenomenal job of taking care of everything. The guides were exceptional, the ship was immaculate, the staff was great—everybody remembered your name. The food was good and I liked the all-inclusiveness, even all the gratuities were included. I loved not having to think about logistics—you don’t have to worry about a thing.”

How was the ship, Le Bougainville , unique? “It was a small ship, only 184 guests, which I liked. I'd rather do a river cruise or this small-ship cruising instead of being with 5,000 people on a big ship. A highlight on our ship was a bar and nightclub called the Blue Eye—it was down on deck one so you're basically below water. Since we were in the Mediterranean, you really couldn’t see but if you were in the Caribbean, you’d actually see the bright fish. It was a neat and different place to go have a drink. I'd never seen anything like that on a cruise ship before.”

What dining experiences stood out? “There was a lot of Italian food that was excellent, and even some French food, too. We went to one place on an island that was like a Michelin star restaurant. We had this eggplant that was phenomenal. And then in Marseille, we went to a restaurant called Miramar. The fish stew was exceptional—it was the real, traditional thing. It was pricey, but it was well worth it.”

What advice would you give Tauck newcomers? “Try to arrive a day early. Flight delays can happen, and you don’t want to miss the welcome cocktail party. And stay longer afterward—many guests extended their time in Malta and visited Gozo. Also, there was a lot of walking so you need to be cognizant of that and know your pace. One day we walked 12,000 steps!”

When WhirlAway Travel’s Jamie Jones and her 12-year-old son Zayne set off for a summer adventure in Utah, it wasn’t just a vacation—it was a series of unforgettable firsts.

Over six packed days, they went fly fishing, biked mountain trails, raced UTVs, and rappelled through canyons—all at Zayne’s direction. He planned the itinerary (nonstop action), curated the meals (burgers and sushi, please), and even selected their rental car: a white Ford Mustang. They spent the first four nights in the luxe comfort of Montage Deer Valley, then roadtripped to Zion and glamped for two nights at Under Canvas Zion. Here, Jamie and Zayne share their favorite moments, their biggest laughs, and why mother-son travel just might be the ultimate bonding experience.

It’s so fun that Zayne selected all your activities. How did you feel about his choices?

Jamie: I was definitely happy with them, but I was terrified of canyoneering because I’m afraid of heights, and I thought fly fishing was going to be super boring and was prepared to read a book on the river bank, but it was really fun. I ended up being a horrible mountain biker, but Zayne was pretty good so I told him to go ahead of me and have fun, but then I got lost on my way back.

You went fly fishing, mountain biking, canyoneering, horseback riding, 4x4-ing, and more. What was your favorite?

Zayne: Fly fishing because I've never done it before. Mountain biking because I really like riding my bike and it was fun going down hills. Canyoneering because I laughed when Mom flipped over.

Jamie: I really liked canyoneering because I was excited to accomplish something new, but I panicked when I got close to every edge, and I lacked any depth perception rappelling off the side of the canyon. So yes, I flipped upside down into a stinky pool of water in a slot canyon! I also really enjoyed fly fishing and the peace and quiet on the river. I was able to cast pretty well so that was fun—until I got my hook stuck in a tree.

Let’s talk about the places you stayed—Montage Deer Valley and Under Canvas Zion. Tell us what you loved there.

Zayne: At Montage Deer Valley, the sushi restaurant was really good. I also liked the free arcade, the unlimited water, and the view from our room. At Under Canvas, there were lots of kids. The view was really nice when we woke up in the morning, and seeing lizards was fun. We didn’t have electricity or air conditioning, but that didn’t bother me.

Jamie: The service was excellent at Montage Deer Valley, and the views were really incredible. It’s located at the very top of the resort in Deer Valley, overlooking pretty much all of Park City. The hotel footprint was surprisingly smaller than I expected so everything was super accessible. And I loved all the small details: When we came back to our room at the end of the day, all of our chargers were wrapped with rubber port holders, and our sunglasses had little cleaning cloths next to them.

The coolest part about Under Canvas was the location. Zion is a pretty busy area and Under Canvas is tucked away in a canyon so you really feel like you're out in the wilderness. There’s no light pollution—we could see the Milky Way. It would be really great for a couple of families to go there together because of the sense of community that they build with live music, fire pits, s’mores, and different activities up at the main lodge. I did miss air conditioning, electricity, and being able to control the water temperature in the bathroom, but that was part of the experience!

How was the food?

Jamie: I gave Zayne a list of places, and said, “Where do you want to eat? You get to pick them all.”

Zayne: My favorite was the shrimp tempura at Yama Sushi at Montage. Oh, and the steak at Fletcher's [in Park City] was really good.

Jamie: I agree with Zayne. I definitely recommend having dinner at Montage’s Yama Sushi one night, and Burgers & Bourbon there was good, too. But I also recommend going off property and into Park City for dinner at least one or two nights. It's a really cute town to walk around, and there's tons of dining options—I think Fletcher’s was my favorite meal, and we had really good ice cream down the street. The dinner at Under Canvas is your typical pub fair. You can also drive into Springdale, which is about 30 minutes away. Be sure to plan your meals ahead of time because it will involve some driving. And make reservations in Park City. It wasn’t too busy in the summer, but you definitely need them in the winter time.

Is there one thing that stands out as the most fun of the whole trip?

Zayne: Yes. Hanging out with my mom.

Jamie: Aww, that's hard to top! I would say the funniest moment was when I flipped over canyoneering and my head dunked into the disgusting water. But the best part of the whole trip was hanging out with Zayne.

Top 5 Safari Do’s & Don’ts

As WhirlAway Travel’s intrepid leader, Jamie Jones is innovative, inspiring, and full of wit and humor. “As we all know, I like to laugh,” she says. Jamie is also, of course, extremely well traveled: She’s visited upwards of 45 countries, and been on 15 safaris, most recently with TransAfrica Safaris in South Africa. Here, she shares her top five safari do’s and don’ts. Get ready for some amazing suggestions, inspiration, and plenty of laughs.

1. Do listen to your guide.

Your safari guide is basically a wilderness wizard. If they say “stay in the vehicle,” this is not the time for a TikTok dance in front of a lion. Guides have years of training, they know the behavior of animals intimately, and they know how to reverse a Land Rover faster than you can say, “Is that a leopard?”

>>Don’t run. Ever.

You are not faster than a lion. You are not faster than a zebra. Honestly, you are probably not even faster than a warthog. Running triggers a predator response. Translation: You could go from tourist with binoculars to buffet item in three seconds flat. This is a hard no.

2. Do pack smart.

Earth tones, layers, and clothes you can rewear are your best friends. That silky neon blouse? The only thing it will attract is tsetse flies. Pack things that are light, breathable, and blend with each other. And don’t forget your meds, bug spray, adapters, charging cords, and camera batteries!

>>Don’t try to bring it all.

Lay it all out. Then halve it. Then take out a little more. You don’t need five pairs of shoes. You’ll live in your hiking boots and camp slides. And while we’re at it, leave your 12-step skincare routine at home. You’ll be glowing naturally, plus dirt is an underrated exfoliant.

3. Do be quiet.

Animals don’t care for loud voices, so this isn’t the place to reenact your favorite nature doc narration. Shouting “OMG it’s a giraffe!!” is unnecessary. The giraffe knows. Everyone knows. Speak in whispers and embrace the silence.

>> Don’t play music.

This should go without saying, but leave your Bluetooth speakers in your room—or back at home, ideally. Allow your personal soundtrack to be birdsong, distant lion roars, and your own mind being blown.

4. Do stay in your vehicle (unless told otherwise).

There’s a reason you signed a waiver. This isn’t a petting zoo—it’s the wild. Lions may look like sleepy cats, but they’re still apex predators. And hippos? They’re basically angry marshmallows that can run 20 mph.

>> Don’t assume anything is safe to approach.

Just because it’s not chasing you now doesn’t mean it won’t chase you soon. And yes, that includes the baboons at the lodge who have been known to literally unzip your backpack and steal your snacks. And maybe even your passport. In the words of the famed Mel Robbins: “Let them.”

5. Do be present.

Put down your phone once in a while. Breathe in the sunrise over the savannah, take in how the air smells after rain and the sound of hyenas whooping in the night. These are the moments you can’t filter.

>>Don’t experience it all through a lens.

It’s tempting to film everything you see for Instagram, but trust me—the moment a cheetah makes eye contact with you? That’s for your soul, not your Stories.

While on safari in Botswana last year, Jamie asked her fellow travelers for their own tips. “What are some things you wish you had known beforehand?” she asked them. Here, a few favorite responses.

• Bring cash for planned gratuities.

• Say yes to a night safari if it’s offered.

• Be prepared to wake up very early and go to bed early.

• Many countries ban plastic. Know this beforehand so you don’t pack any single-use plastic in your luggage.

• Be ok with peeing in the bush. On a similar note, be mindful of your bowel movement schedule—game drives are long!

• Bring hydration tablets or packets.

• Pack a hat with a strap so it doesn't fly away in the wind.

• Bring along some local treats to share with the lodge staff.

• A gin and tonic tastes best with an African sunset.

1. A VIP visit to the Colonna Palace in Rome

“It was completely closed to the public when we visited. They rarely do this level of private tour so it was truly a unique experience that no one can just click and book. It was extraordinary—we were literally invited into the home of Prince Prospero Colonna. We walked through room after room after room and not only got an art history lesson, but also learned about the history of the family. It was mind blowing, magical, and profoundly moving being surrounded by priceless works of art and Baroque masterpieces, exploring opulent galleries and salons, serene gardens, and discovering the Colonna family’s legacy—and having it all to ourselves! I don’t know a lot about art and our guide was able to speak to my level and also to someone who was a major art lover. It ended up being a bucket-list experience for me.”

2. A cooking class in a Tuscan family home
“This was about halfway between Tuscany and Florence, but felt like we were in the middle of nowhere! After driving over bumpy country roads and through fields, we got to this little house surrounded by rolling hills and grapevines. A couple named Fabrizio and Camilla live on the property next door and run cooking classes here. It was about as authentic as you can get. It was only five of us, along with Camilla and her daughter. First they taught us how to make focaccia, and then tagliatelle and tortelloni—everything by hand. Our driver loved to cook so he went out into the woods and picked some wild asparagus. He cooked it up himself and we added it to our meal. We all sat down together on the terrace and had a long, lazy lunch that I’ll never forget. We were out in the countryside, in someone’s home, sharing stories of their history and their land.”

3. A private artisans tour in Florence

“The intention of this was to expose us to artisans who embrace not just craftsmanship, but their heritage and their time-honored traditions. We met with five different artisans who were born and raised in Florence. They’re investing in their local community and supporting each other. One of our stops was at one of the oldest perfumeries in the city. It was like an old apothecary, but because our guide had connections, we were invited into the basement to see where they actually make the perfume. They label everything themselves—nothing is mass-distributed. Another visit was with a jeweler—just an older gentleman and his wife in a tiny shop. He was sitting at a desk with his old tools, making this exquisite jewelry the way his family taught him long ago. It was so humbling to see.”

4. A Vespa ride through Rome with a group of old Italian friends

“This was with a small group of drivers who all own their own vintage Vespas. They’re good friends, like this fun biker gang. It’s not their full-time careers—they do this because they love it, and they love sharing their city with others in a very personal way. We were each on the back of a Vespa with our own driver. My driver told me stories about growing up, and pointed out places where he and his friends used to hang out as kids. So it was very, very personal and not just like, ‘Here's the Colosseum!’ They took us all around the city and we finished on a hill with a view over the city at sunset—it was extraordinary. We also stopped for aperitifs and some little snacks at a bistro in an area where there were no tourists. The locals were looking at us kind of weird, like ‘What are you doing here?’ This might sound silly, but the day was a personal growth experience for me. I’m a very cautious person and this isn’t something I’d normally do, but it was so personal and they made me feel so comfortable. I think if it had just been a random company and someone said, ‘Okay, get on the back of the bike,’ I probably wouldn’t have done it, and I definitely wouldn't have had the same experience.”

5. An intimate winemaker’s dinner in San Gimignano

“The town of San Gimignano gets really packed with tourists. There were tour buses everywhere and the shops were a little more commercial. But then we ducked into this building and it was like another world. Calling it a restaurant is generous—it was more like a home, with a patio out back that overlooked the hills. We started with a wine tasting, aperitifs, and some appetizers on the patio. Then they took us inside to a large table that we all crammed around. They brought out three different red wines and taught us about each one, then we had an incredible homemade pasta. And the tiramisu! I don’t usually like tiramisu but it was incredible. We all just ate and drank and laughed and shared stories with each other.”

An Insider’s Guide to Tulip Season in the Netherlands

As the Vice President and Luxury Travel Advisor of WhirlAway, Sara Samuel has been known to plan some special travel experiences. Yet her recent trip to the Netherlands with her father and sister might just top her list.

The backstory: Her grandfather was a wholesale flower grower in Southeastern Pennsylvania and her dad grew up working in his greenhouses. Years later, Sara and her sister often rode along on deliveries, helping load and unload flats of flowers. Their grandfather received his bulbs from a man they called “the Dutchman,” whose shipments sometimes came packed along with a special pair of wooden shoes (Sara still has hers). Later in life, her father dreamed of visiting the Netherlands during “tulip time” with his two daughters. In April, they made it a reality with a next-level trip and customized itinerary featuring a deep dive into the flower business during peak bloom. Here, Sara shares her insider tips for taking it all in.

“The famous Keukenhof lives up to the hype! Known as the Garden of the World, it’s a massive park that is absolutely worth visiting. Very different from visiting farmed tulip fields, Keukenhof feels like a giant art exhibit. It’s completely different every year because at the end of the season, they dig up and replant the bulbs in different designs across the 80 acres of gardens. More than seven million bulbs were planted this year. It's only open eight weeks a year and about 26,000 people visit it every day during that time, so you really want to get there early or late in the day.”

If you’re a gardener who loves unusual tulips and is curious about their history…

“Take a private tour of the Hortus Bulborum. While everyone knows Keukenhof, Hortus feels like a secret gem—and it’s only a 35-minute drive from Keukenhof. Hortus is home to a historical collection of rare tulip varieties that you probably can’t see anywhere else in the world. It's a volunteer organization, and they're preserving the history of these bulbs—some of them from the 1500s. It’s a vast garden of spring-flowering bulbs—tulips, as well as daffodils, hyacinths, fritillaries, and more.”

If you’ve ever wondered where the tulips you buy at your grocery store are grown…

“You absolutely should meet with a grower. Our entire visit was inside a family’s giant warehouse of a greenhouse, where bulbs and cut flowers are grown. We got to see the whole process. This was not at all touristy—it was just us and the grower. If you just want to see pretty flowers, this isn’t for you, but anyone interested in the tulip growing process will find it fascinating.”

“Be sure to visit the Tulip Experience Amsterdam. On your trip, you’ll drive through fields and fields of blooming flowers, but growers, understandably, don’t allow you to walk in their fields for photos or picking. But here, there are big expansive fields of flowering tulips with wide rows that are meant to be walked through so you can get the perfect photo. Yes, it feels a little touristy, but it serves a great purpose. And with your admission, you can pick a few tulips on your way out.”

“The flower auction in Aalsmeer is astounding. It’s the largest in the world, where they move 40-some million flowers a day to florists and stores all over the world. You're watching it all from above—hundreds of people riding around on these little scooters that are zipping through all these traffic lanes, pulling carts and coming in and pulling massive trains of flowers behind them. It’s hard to grasp how massive it is—the size of 250 football fields, and that's not even the shipping part of it. We arranged a visit with a guide who was a retired rose grower and used to be on the board of the organization, so he took us behind the scenes and we were given private access to the live auction board. I absolutely recommend this experience for anyone, whether they’re in the business or not. You’ll never look at a bunch of flowers the same way!”

Just Back From … The Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana

The great American West, but make it luxe. That’s the inspiration behind The Ranch at Rock Creek, a historical, five-star property nestled in the wilds of Montana’s Rockies.

In February, WhirlAway’s Stacey Blum spent three nights at this all-inclusive guest ranch with a group of fellow travel advisors, where they played, relaxed, wined, and dined. Stacey chose to go cross-country skiing and snowmobiling one day, and sapphire mining and horseback riding the next. On getting there:
“I flew into Missoula, where a driver met us at the airport. From there, the drive to the ranch took about 90 minutes. Most guests are typically picked up in a Suburban or another luxury vehicle, but since our group was large and arrived together, we were in a Sprinter van and they towed our luggage behind us.”

I stayed in the three-bedroom Ponderosa Cabin with another travel advisor, but it was so spacious, I felt like I had the place to myself. Each bedroom had a king-size bed and a private bathroom, all with stunning clawfoot tubs—a perfect way to warm up after a cold day outdoors . Our cabin felt rustic but chic with wood walls and traditional touches. There are also two new modern cabins [the Red Tail and the Golden Eagle] that were originally built for the owners’ children and their families.”

On the din ing:

“Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were wonderful sit-down experiences in the main lodge. If you don’t want to sit down for a full breakfast, you can choose to have a pastry and coffee at the bar. In the summer season, there’s another location on property for breakfast and lunch. For me, every day was a beautiful experience. I'm pescatarian and they accommodate all dietary restrictions, and also have healthy, delicious juices. One morning, I enjoyed mushroom toast with a poached egg, fresh fruit, and coffee. One night, they featured an elegant multiple course experience paired with wine, and on another night, a traditional fried chicken dinner with all the Southern fixings served family style. Instead of chicken, I had the breaded cod which was phenomenal. We had a tremendous amount of snow that day, so it just felt so hearty and warm.”

On the top-notch service:

“Everyone who works there is so friendly, inviting, and passionate about their job. While on our activities, I asked the guides how long their contract was and how long they’d been there. And every story I heard was, ‘Oh, I signed up for a four-month contract, and I've been here seven years’ or ‘I was supposed to be here for an internship over the summer, and I've now been here three years.’ You can tell how much they love being there.”

On the thoughtful amenities:

“I always prefer to travel light, especially for a short trip with layovers. The Ranch at Rock Creek had me covered—coming from Florida, I didn’t need to pack bulky winter gear. Before your activities, you can borrow snow pants, jackets, boots, gloves, and all the necessary equipment like skis and fishing gear. You don’t have to bring anything from home.”

On the cross-country skiing:

“Most of the people in our group had never been on cross-country skis before, but the two guides were so wonderful and helped us along. They chose a trail that was not very challenging, and if someone fell, they’d pick you right up. We skied to a picnic lunch they had set up for us, where two fire pits were burning, Purple Hands winery was offering tastings, and there was a full lunch menu with options that accommodated dietary restrictions for those of us who didn’t eat meat.”

On the snowmobiling:
“ There were only three of us with two guides, so it was really personalized and a lot of fun. It was snowing, but the snowmobiles had heated handlebars that got so warm, I had to turn them down. If you're a beginner, they put a key in so you can’t go faster than 22 miles per hour. The best part? I was never cold—they gave me a full jumpsuit, gloves, and boots.”

On the sapphire mining:

“This area of Montana is known for sapphire mining, which was fascinating to learn about. You go into this little hut where they’ve already collected and washed the debris. Then they dump it out on the table and you dig through it, looking for these tiny sapphires. It’s kind of like a scavenger hunt and you can keep everything you find. I found a couple little pink sapphires and some transparent ones, too. A few years ago, a child found a five carat-sapphire and got to keep it!”

On the horseback riding:

“I think I rode once many years ago, so I am a novice. But horseback riding in the snow here was such a beautiful, wonderful experience. Rock Creek is not an equestrian lodge so you cannot ride every day—the wealth and health of the horses is their number-one priority. My horse, Melvin, had a funny personality and liked to play games with me, stopping and trying to go in different directions. But there was a guide in the front and in the back of our group and they were so reassuring and helpful!”

On the extra-special touches:

“One of the most unique experiences was the hat bar where you can pick a felt or straw cowboy hat and personalize it with bands, pins, ribbons, and feathers. It was such a cool souvenir, and something I’d absolutely recommend to clients. The ranch also has a saloon with bowling, a pool table, karaoke, TVs, and a bar with saddle-shaped stools. It’s such a fun spot to unwind at the end of the day.”

Just Back From…the Caribbean with The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

What’s a quick, easy, and incredibly relaxing way to escape the winter doldrums? For WhirlAway’s Rachel Pentz and Amy Smolders, that answer came in a three-night sail on The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s Ilma —perhaps the most luxurious super-yacht there ever was. The self-described “work besties”—who also happen to be real-life besties—set out from San Juan, spent the next day in Virgin Gorda visiting the Oil Nut Bay resort, and the following day in St. Barths, where they took in the Christopher property. A few days after they returned home, Rachel and Amy gave us the scoop.

On first impressions:
Amy: “ This was my first cruise so I didn't really know what to expect, and I have to admit, I can often be underwhelmed by things. But knowing the brand, my expectations were high and from the moment we walked onboard, I cannot express just how beautiful everything was. And it wasn’t only the physical beauty, but the service, too. Everybody was so unbelievably kind.”

On the beauty of a three-day cruise:
Amy: “ Right from the beginning, there's no time wasted getting acclimated. You truly have everything you need right there, and you're getting to see different places over the course of three days. I think this is a really good alternative to long weekend travel because you can do so much in that short amount of time.”

Rachel: “We both have husbands and kids at home so this was a way to take a short getaway and not feel like you’re gone for too long, but still come back revived. We flew out Sunday morning, boarded the ship, disembarked on Wednesday, and were home by seven o'clock that evening.”

On the level of service:

Rachel: “ They’re not crew members, they're not staff—they’re called the ‘Ladies and Gentlemen of the Ritz-Carlton.’ They were so personal and personable. They wanted to get to know you and make sure they knew your preferences—and they remembered everything. They claimed the staff-guest ratio was about one to one, and it was. You felt it.”

Amy: “ We also had a suite ambassador who was dedicated to providing whatever we needed so there was that personal connection, too.”

On the ship style:

Amy: “It definitely is consistent with the vibe of the Ritz-Carlton brand. The space, the color palette, the decor—it all was understated, refined elegance. There was nothing glitzy or pretentious about it. Subtle details were everywhere.”

On the private suites:
Rachel: “ They were beautiful, luxurious, and thoughtful. Even the entry level suites had plenty of space for two adults and the dual sinks in the bathroom were key. There was a button next to the bed so you could open the blinds to the balcony—all the rooms have spacious terraces. There were motion sensor lights underneath your nightstand. And oh the soap! All the bathroom amenities were by Diptyque.”

On the dining scene:
Rachel: “ There are five restaurants, plus ensuite dining and a café. Every single thing was lovely—from the gelato to the grilled octopus to our morning charcuterie board.”

Amy: “ We had dinner at the Beach House one night and at Tides the second night. At Beach House, Rachel and I shared the croquetas to start, and I had the Lobster Salad, followed by the Pollo Asado. At Tides, I began with a Hearts of Palm Salad and had the Seafood Risotto for my main course. Naturally, we had dessert each night, but a delightful surprise at Tides was the beautiful tray of Petit Fours presented at the end of every meal.”

Rachel: “ On our last night at Tides, there was a piano player who all of a sudden started singing Happy Birthday . And it just so happened that it was for the man right next to us. Then the ladies and gentleman came over to wish him a happy birthday. It was just so special, and you felt like you were part of it. Every connection we made really felt very personal, even with the other guests.”

On the VIP treatment:
Rachel: “ During our first afternoon, we wanted to have a late lunch at Mistral. That’s when we met Ika, our ‘Lady,’ and she really took us in. She wasn't just our lunch server—she told us everything that we needed to know about reservations. She told us about the spaces. She told us about every aspect of the ship. We sought her out and made sure to have breakfast with her the next couple mornings. She was just as excited to see us as we were excited to see her!”

On the biggest surprise:
Amy: “The amount of space was unbelievable. There were maybe 450 people on the ship, but there was capacity for so many more. You could always find nooks and places that were empty at all times of the day.”

On visiting Oil Nut Bay on Virgin Gorda:

Rachel: “We wanted to see if it would be suitable for our clients—the answer is 150 percent yes! If you want to get away from it all, the vibe here is all private luxury. They have about 40 to 50 villas right now, and they’re building up to well over 100. They're also building an over-the-water spa that they're hoping to open this season. The staff was incredible and extremely attentive. They have a barn where the property owner rehabilitates animals, so we got to feed horses and emus—just some of the little touches in this luxurious environment.”

Amy: “ It was so secluded and protected with greenery—like you’re in your own private space even though the suites are connected. Every suite was ocean-facing, and the pool is right over the beach. We were both so impressed with the spa. No need for background music—they open the windows so you’re lulled into relaxation by the gentle sounds of the ocean. We had lunch at La Plage de Chris, where the tables are as close to the ocean as you can possibly get. The attentive service and delicious food made it a truly special afternoon.”

On what they’d do differently next time:
Rachel: “Take another day at sea to just enjoy the ship! We wished we could experience the water toys, spend more time in the restaurants, and explore every nook and cranny.”

For the Mountain Lover: Banff, Canada

Why Go: You can easily spend your whole time in the blissful solitude of nature—hiking the Canadian Rockies peaks, kayaking in turquoise lakes, and soaking in natural hot springs—the birds and maybe a beaver or two as your only companions. If (and when) you’re ready for human interaction, pull up a stool at a downtown brewery, where your neighbor will be happy to share local lore.

Where to Stay: With stately towers and steep roofs rising from the forest, Fairmont Banff Springs looks like something right out of a fairytale. Opened in 1888 by the Canadian Pacific Railway, it was one of Canada’s first grand railway hotels. Today, the landmark hotel features nearly 800 rooms, a dozen bars and restaurants, and a sublime spa.

What to Eat & Drink: Start your day at Coyotes —the best breakfast according to locals—where the granola is house-made and the Canadian back bacon is not to be missed. The Sky Bistro is known for its “farm-to-summit” dishes like foraged mushroom toast and hearty bison stew, while Banff Ave Brewing Co. is a cozy gastropub with craft beers and a famous Poutine.

Don’t Miss: An evening wildlife safari in Banff National Park . Yes, you’ll be with a small group of others, but it’s worth it to take in the sunset as you spot bears, deer, elk, and moose.

For the Beach Comber: Turks and Caicos

Why Go: With calm crystalline waters, powdery white sand, and an easy-peasy flight (less than two hours from Miami), a better question would be, why not go? This cluster of nine islands and dozens of cays is a scuba diver’s and snorkeler's dream, but it’s also a picture-perfect place to dig your toes into the sand with a rum punch in hand. Bonus points for the wide-open, rarely crowded beaches.

Where to Stay: Wyamara Resorts + Villas is a modern luxury boutique resort on the famous Grace Bay Beach—a coveted spot for its long stretch of white sand (one of the island’s largest). There are three on-site restaurants (Pink Bar has daily live music), and a world-class wellness program. Take an al fresco power yoga class, then bliss out in the spa with a rose quartz crystal massage.

What to Eat & Drink: Cocovan is an easy, fun, and delicious spot, where fish tacos, spicy falafel bowls, and curry fries are served from a retro Airstream trailer. Coco Bistro is a perennial favorite for its local dishes served under a starlit sky (try the “Conch 2 Ways”), while Marine Room is a newer restaurant that’s becoming a destination for its swordfish crudo, Wagyu ribeye, mango passionfruit mousse cake, and elderflower- and pear-infused martinis.

Don’t Miss: Horseback riding on the beach at sunset and, if you’re feeling intrepid, take a kitesurfing lesson. These islands are known to have some of the best conditions for the sport with just-right winds and typically calm waters.

For the City Slicker: Tokyo, Japan

Why Go: Safe, buzzy, and endlessly fascinating, Tokyo might be the best city on earth to get lost in. Wander through the ancient Asakusa district, dive deep into Akihabara’s anime and manga shops, unwind in a healing onsen hotspring, and try some of the best ramen of your life in hidden alley shops. Locals are warm and welcoming, always happy to help travelers—even with a language barrier!

Where to Stay: Set high on the top floors of the Otemachi Tower, Aman Tokyo looks over the city skyline all the way to Mount Fuji. It’s one of the city’s most exclusive hotels with impeccable ryokan -style rooms, the largest sky-lofted spa in Tokyo, and four incredible restaurants (reserve a spot at Mushashi’s eight-seat omakase sushi counter). Solo travelers should consider the three-night Misogi Retreat featuring yoga, a spirit cleansing Ogoma ritual, and Japanese mindfulness techniques.

What to Eat & Drink: The abundance of street foods makes solo dining unintimidating, while the Tonkotsu ramen chain Ichiran had the genius idea to create one-person dining booths. Duck into a craft sake bar and watch a sommelier at work— Utsura Utsura in the Shibuya district is a favorite.

Don’t Miss: The vibrant Nippori Textile Town , a district full of Japanese charm—and dozens of shops devoted to local textiles. And away from the city’s bustling center, Gotokuji Temple is adorned with hundreds of cat figurines believed to bring good fortune. Lastly, don’t leave without having at least one (preferably several) matcha soft serves.

For the Desert Seeker: Moab and Canyon Point, Utah

Why Go: Nowhere else in the U.S. can take you away from the hustle of city life quite like the Utah desert. Spend your days hiking amid the unworldly red-rock formations of national parks, and your nights stargazing from some of the best glamping spots in the country. The famed Moab Giants museum is a kitschy off-day outing, replete with 100 life-size replicas of the dinosaurs that used to roam the area.
Where to Stay: Experience upscale, safari-inspired living at the Under Canvas properties in Moab and Zion. The custom-designed tents are decked out with a king-sized bed, wood-burning stove or fireplace, and chic furnishings. If you’re looking for an ultra-luxe stay, check into one of Aman Group’s properties. Framing the dunes and ridges in Canyon Point, Amangiri features 34 modernist suites in a heavenly locale, while Camp Sarika at Amangiri comprises just 10 tented pavilions, each with a private plunge pool and serious privacy.

What to Eat & Drink: In Moab, Doughbird feels like a mirage of hipsterism with its subway tile design and fried chicken and donuts menu, while Spitfire is a great spot for BBQ on a fun and lively patio. Don’t Miss: Roadtripping to the stunning Upper Antelope Canyon in Northern Arizona . Located on a Navajo Reservation, the area is famous for its winding canyon corridors, massive sandstone rooms, and the way the light cascades through it all. Let’s celebrate Valentine’s Day with some travel love. It’s never easy playing favorites, but we did it anyway! Here are seven of our most cherished places on earth.

Provence: The Luberon Region

Rolling vineyards, lavender fields, and hilltop villages that are the stuff of fairytales. This is France’s Luberon region, and we don’t think it could get any more charming. We love to spend our days meandering artisan markets, truffle hunting, and wine tasting (Gordes and Roussillon are a couple of our favorite villages). Come evening, it’s off to a Michelin-starred restaurant. There are seven of them in this region so the options are plentiful—we always go back to Le Champ des Lunes and Auberge la Fenière. As for where to stay, we’re devoted to Arielles Gordes, La Bastide, a luxurious Gordes hideaway with a history that dates back more than 500 years.

Greece: Beyond Santorini & Mykonos

Santorini and Mykonos might be Greece’s bold-faced names, but it’s the lesser-known isles that are stealing our hearts. Topping our list is Kéa Island, a decidedly laid-back island that’s the closest one to Athens. So why not visit both? Spend a few days exploring the famous archaeological sites of The Acropolis and shopping along the glitzy Athens Riviera, then take a short boat ride over to Kéa for some serious seaside relaxation. This little island is celebrated for its pristine beaches, miles of hiking, and the ancient Lion of Kéa sculpture that’s known as the island protector. It’s worth the trek to see it—trust us. It’s also not far from the One&Only Kea Island—one of the most anticipated recent hotel openings. Hugging the coast with its own private beach, this cliffside retreat epitomizes barefoot luxury.

Ecuador: Choco Rain Forest

A unique blend of biodiversity and luxury, “the Chocó,” one of the world’s most ecologically rich regions, is home to rare wildlife, cloud forests, and private eco-lodges with every five-star comfort and amenity you can dream of. SARDINIA, ITALY

This island has been a favorite beach vacation for Italians and Europeans for years, and Americans are just starting to catch on—get there before the crowds arrive!

Must See: The spectacular waters and quiet beaches are the main draw here. Local favorites include Spiaggia del Principe, Cala Luna, and Piscinas Beach , while the five-mile stretch of Poetto Beach is a livelier scene with restaurants and food stands. Be sure to charter a private boat— Figarolo Island is a wonderful destination, and home to a large pod of bottlenose dolphins. Make time to explore the island’s old-world history, especially the town of Oristano, which is known for its nuraghi , beehive-shaped monuments from the Bronze Age.

Stay: Along the island’s southern coast, Forte Village has eight hotels, 13 luxury villas, and 40 exclusive suites. The grounds are situated right along the beach and within more than 100 acres of gardens.

Yes, there are stunning safaris, but South Africa offers so much more, including Babylonstoren, Cape Town, a Peninsula tour, the Garden Route, whale watching, art, and food—we could go on! Put simply, once you discover South Africa, you’ll want to book a return trip, stat.

Must See: The mosaics, murals, and photo-realism that line the streets of the Woodstock and Salt River neighborhoods are a sight to behold. We also loved taking in Chapman’s Peak Drive by sidecar, and Cape of Good Hope by helicopter.

Stay: In South Africa, there seems to be a lodge for every type of traveler. For families and ultimate privacy, Tswalu , on the southernmost edge of the Kalahari, offers three different safari camps: the Motse (the main lodge with one- and two-bedroom suites), the Loapi (luxury tented villas), and the Tarkuni (a thatched villa with five bedrooms). Every accommodation includes private vehicles and, of course, incredible safaris. Royal Malewane in Greater Kruger features four luxury safari lodges, as well as three exclusive private villas. One&Only Cape Town feels super secluded yet is just steps from the city’s most iconic sights. The property is also home to the luxurious Spa Island and South Africa’s only Nobu restaurant.

Must See: Waipoua Forest is home to some of the world’s oldest and largest kauri trees, including the famous Tāne Mahuta, which is over 2,500 years old! The city of Rotorua is most famous for its geothermal activity—we loved soaking in the mineral-rich waters and exploring the Whakarewarewa Forest by foot and bicycle. Oamaru is a charming town on the South Island, celebrated for its unique blend of Victorian heritage, natural beauty, and vibrant local culture. It’s also famous for the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony, where you can watch the world’s smallest penguins waddle ashore at sunset.

Stay: In Queenstown, Azur Luxury Lodge offers an exceptional and tranquil retreat with stunning panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding mountains. SEVILLE, SPAIN

Often referred to as the most Spanish city in all of Spain, Seville is utterly charming. Plus, enticing day trips from Seville to quaint little villages and renowned sites showcase just why this country will always top our wish list.

Must See: The Seville Cathedral is a majestic Gothic masterpiece that houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Nearby, the Alcázar Reales is considered the oldest palace in Europe, enchanting with its Moorish architecture and lush gardens. A registered UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s also where parts of Game of Thrones were filmed. The Plaza de España , meanwhile, is a semicircular marvel that dazzles with colorful tiles and serene canals.

Stay: Hotel Alfonso XIII is rich in history and luxury. In 1929, it was commissioned by the King of Spain as a site to host dignitaries. Today, the property maintains its distinguished Moorish design and authentic Sevillian style, and features a glorious outdoor pool and lush gardens.

Sip & Savor: Take a tapas food tour through Mercado de Triana , an indoor bazaar featuring the freshest of local produce, cheese, seafood, and meat, as well as restaurants, breweries, a cooking school, and museum.

CANADA

With top destinations including Vancouver and Haida Gwaii (an archipelago off British Columbia’s west coast), Canada is a dreamy mix of modern cities, stunning natural surroundings, excellent cuisine, wildlife, Indigenous cultures, and outdoor adventure.

Must See: Spot grizzly bears, polar bears, and beluga whales on a wildlife tour, and take in the aurora borealis during a Northern Lights adventure. A heli-fishing adventure is also highly recommended, as is a tour of the Indigenous Haida Gwaii island chain, a protected landscape that’s home to less than 5,000 people.

Stay: In Newfoundland, the Fogo Island Inn sits at the edge of the wild North Atlantic, an architectural marvel punctuating the remote landscape. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. In Montreal, we love staying at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth Hotel . It’s just steps away from the famed Sainte-Catherine street, and fun fact, suite 1742 is home of the “bed-in for peace,” where John Lennon and Yoko Ono famously recorded “Give Peace a Chance.”

Sip & Savor: Toronto boasts 13 Michelin-starred restaurants, including Alo , Edulis , and Shoushin . In Alberta and Metis Crossing, we recommend taking an Indigenous food tour, while in Whistler, the Thunderbird Cafe is renowned for its Indigenous-inspired menu. And in Ontario, the Niagara Ice Wine Festival is a winter wonderland of authentic food and wine.

INDIA’S GOLDEN TRIANGLE: DELHI, AGRA, JAIPUR

Witnessing the palaces of Rajasthan and the Taj Mahal? This alone is reason enough to visit India, yet there are so many more ways to experience this vibrant country, which celebrates a zest for life within its diverse communities and top destinations.

Must See: The Taj Mahal should obviously top your list—we recommend visiting at sunrise when the marble is cast in an ethereal glow. In Jaipur, the Hawa Mahal, the "Palace of Winds," enchants with its intricate pink and red sandstone and latticework, while Jodhpur’s imposing Mehrangarh Fort stands high on a hill, providing sweeping desert views and a regal Rajasthan history.

Stay: With views of the Taj Mahal from every room and suite, the Oberoi Amarvilas is known as the best hotel in Agra. In Jodhpur, the Umaid Bhawan Palace is considered the last great royal palace, and to this day is still the residence of members of the royal family (they reside in a secluded wing of the property). Perched high above the Blue City amid 26 acres of glorious gardens, it’s easy to understand why this was the wedding site of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas.

Celebration trips, specifically graduation, are an excellent way to bond with your graduate before you set them off to the world. Families are saving the big trips - African safari, Galapagos, Alaska, Europe - to celebrate the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next for both the graduates and the parents. Our team likes to start the graduation celebration trip early with our clients - most when their graduate is in 9th grade. It may feel like the cap and gown is ages away but the years go by fast! Following are 5 things to consider so that you and your graduate have the best experience possible.

Investment
Discuss how much you want to invest in this once in a lifetime experience. The transition from high school or college to the next stage of life may be the last time you will be able to take a big trip for years. The graduation trip is going to be an investment. It is best to begin preparing for this well in advance. Graduate Insight
