A Summer to Remember

September 18, 2025

WhirlAway clients say it was one for the books—and now we’re already making our goals for 2026.

“What did you do for summer vacation?” With back-to-school and back-to-business in full swing, this seems to be a favorite conversation starter in September. In celebration of our clients’ favorite trips (and there were many!), we’ve created a highlight reel so you can begin dreaming and planning your ultimate 2026 summer vacation.

ITALY

Where:  Castelfranci, Sorrento & Capri

Why Go:  Together, these destinations create the ultimate Mediterranean trifecta—savor fine wines, bask in coastal elegance, and revel in Italian dolce vita. We’re talking about Castelfranci’s rolling vineyards, Sorrento’s cliffside glamour and sweeping Bay of Naples views, and Capri’s iconic blue grottos and chic boutiques.

Not to Miss:  The annual Castelfranci Wine Festival is held in early August and celebrates the town’s winemaking traditions with tastings, local producer showcases, food pairings, and entertainment. Excelsior Vittoria is “a favorite hotel of all time,” says one WhirlAway client. Other musts: a hands-on pizza making class in Sorrento, and a private yacht excursion around Capri curated for family members of all ages.

ICELAND

Where:  The Southern Coast

Why Go:  Home to the earth’s largest glaciers, there’s no shortage of icebound experiences here!

Not to Miss:  Hike the picturesque glacier outlet of Sólheimajökull and take in panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Discover large sinkholes, called moulins, which drain into crystal-clear waterfalls beneath the black sand. And best of all: Explore the interior of a volcano on a journey that begins with a 40-minute hike to the crater. Once inside, you’ll be lowered into the volcanic opening with a specially designed lift. As your descent begins, the magma chamber puts on a display of magnificent colorations and eclectic textures.

CROATIA

Where:  Dubrovnik, Hvar & the Island of Bisevo

Why Go:  Sun-drenched days along the Adriatic, historic walled cities, and glittering turquoise seas make Croatia irresistible for summer adventuring. Luxury travelers will find secluded islands accessible by private yacht, Michelin-starred dining in Dubrovnik and Hvar, and boutique hotels carved into centuries-old stone palaces.

Not to Miss:  When in Croatia, a boat tour on the Adriatic Sea is basically mandatory! Explore some of the bluest waters and take in the renowned sights between Dubrovnik and Hvar. While exploring the island of Bisevo, be sure to visit the large Monk Seal Cave—named after the Mediterranean creature who used to reside on its beach. And on Vis Island, Stiniva is one of the most Instagram-worthy beaches in all of Croatia.

HAWAII

Where:  Kona & Maui

Why Go:  Pristine beaches, dramatic volcanos, lush rainforests, and lavish resorts. Indulge in culinary journeys of hyper-local flavors and discover where culture meets nature—whale watching, private sailing, and star-gazing from volcanic heights.

Not to Miss:  An evening manta ray snorkel—the most famous scuba dive or snorkel in Kona. A shallow, 25-foot depth allows both snorkelers and certified divers to get in on the action, as these gentle giants feed on a buffet of plankton attracted by dive lights. On Maui, the Haleakala Sunrise Guided Bike Tour takes you to the 10,000-foot summit of Haleakala, where you’ll learn about its significance in Hawaiian culture. As you enjoy bi-coastal views of Maui's central valley and the West Maui Mountains, you’ll spin through Maui’s most enchanting landscapes.

ALASKA

Where:  An indelible cruise through the waters of Alaska with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions.

Why Go:  There is no place quite like this—an untrammeled frontier of snow-capped mountains, breathtaking fjords, and extraordinary wildlife. Lindblad Expeditions has been exploring the region’s wildest corners for more than 40 years, seeking out inlets and coves where larger ships can’t sail.

Not to Miss:  Glide among electric blue icebergs, hear the thunder of calving glaciers, and cruise shore-ward in Zodiacs for sightings of brown bears, pods of orcas, breaching whales, and bald eagles. When in Glacier Bay National Park, learn from First Nations peoples in Haida Gwaii, walk rainforest muskegs, or journey through the seldom-seen coastal inlets.

GREECE

Where:  Anywhere you can island hop from   your own private yacht!

Why Go:  Imagine a trip for a family of six, including all ages and travel preferences. Add milestone moments like a retirement celebration, a son’s 30th birthday, and a daughter’s graduation, and this Greek sojourn will quickly become a favorite summer vacation.

Not to Miss:  A beach club day at Scorpio’s on Mykonos, a biking excursion on Ios, and dancing with the yacht crew during your last dinner aboard. A happy WhirlAway client can attest: “It’s the easiest, most relaxing, and best quality family time they’ve ever had—a very special vacation!”

Golf, in its purest form, is about more than a scorecard. It’s about the stories the game collects: the putt sunk against a backdrop of crashing waves, a winning moment that lingers long after sunset, the shared adventure that bonds a group for life. For WhirlAway Travel, these moments are the very heart of curated golf vacations. As a Luxury Travel Advisor, Alison Warner specializes in golf vacations. Here, she shares five reasons why you should start planning your next golf escape.

Over six packed days, they went fly fishing, biked mountain trails, raced UTVs, and rappelled through canyons—all at Zayne’s direction. He planned the itinerary (nonstop action), curated the meals (burgers and sushi, please), and even selected their rental car: a white Ford Mustang. They spent the first four nights in the luxe comfort of Montage Deer Valley, then roadtripped to Zion and glamped for two nights at Under Canvas Zion. Here, Jamie and Zayne share their favorite moments, their biggest laughs, and why mother-son travel just might be the ultimate bonding experience.

1. Do listen to your guide. Your safari guide is basically a wilderness wizard. If they say “stay in the vehicle,” this is not the time for a TikTok dance in front of a lion. Guides have years of training, they know the behavior of animals intimately, and they know how to reverse a Land Rover faster than you can say, “Is that a leopard?” >>Don’t run. Ever. You are not faster than a lion. You are not faster than a zebra. Honestly, you are probably not even faster than a warthog. Running triggers a predator response. Translation: You could go from tourist with binoculars to buffet item in three seconds flat. This is a hard no.

Everyone talks about going on safari. But not everyone tells you how it feels—to experience a languid afternoon with winemakers who forgo the norm, to watch a lioness cradle her cub across the plains, to luxuriate in a Versace-drenched suite in the Winelands where the bathtub rivals the size of a Manhattan studio. WhirlAway’s Stacey Blum (whose job is to vet the best of the best) recently spent two weeks on an indelible journey through South Africa with Abercrombie & Kent. She discovered a symphony of wow factors—equal parts city, bush, and bliss. These five moments rose to the top as her most exclusive, most unexpected, and most unforgettable.

1. A VIP visit to the Colonna Palace in Rome “It was completely closed to the public when we visited. They rarely do this level of private tour so it was truly a unique experience that no one can just click and book. It was extraordinary—we were literally invited into the home of Prince Prospero Colonna. We walked through room after room after room and not only got an art history lesson, but also learned about the history of the family. It was mind blowing, magical, and profoundly moving being surrounded by priceless works of art and Baroque masterpieces, exploring opulent galleries and salons, serene gardens, and discovering the Colonna family’s legacy—and having it all to ourselves! I don’t know a lot about art and our guide was able to speak to my level and also to someone who was a major art lover. It ended up being a bucket-list experience for me.”

The backstory: Her grandfather was a wholesale flower grower in Southeastern Pennsylvania and her dad grew up working in his greenhouses. Years later, Sara and her sister often rode along on deliveries, helping load and unload flats of flowers. Their grandfather received his bulbs from a man they called “the Dutchman,” whose shipments sometimes came packed along with a special pair of wooden shoes (Sara still has hers). Later in life, her father dreamed of visiting the Netherlands during “tulip time” with his two daughters. In April, they made it a reality with a next-level trip and customized itinerary featuring a deep dive into the flower business during peak bloom. Here, Sara shares her insider tips for taking it all in.

In February, WhirlAway’s Stacey Blum spent three nights at this all-inclusive guest ranch with a group of fellow travel advisors, where they played, relaxed, wined, and dined. The 6,600-acre property, which has been a working ranch since the 1800s, features dozens of fun and authentic activities that vary with the season, each one customized to the traveler’s skill level. Stacey chose to go cross-country skiing and snowmobiling one day, and sapphire mining and horseback riding the next. Oregon-based Purple Hands winery was on site during her stay, pairing wines with a six-course meal, and offering special tastings alongside ice skating, picnics, and campfires. Here, she shares her experience.
