Just Back From … the Cycladic Islands

WhirlAway’s Denise Booth shares three only-in-Greece experiences that left a lasting impression.

What makes the Cycladic Islands feel so singular? For Luxury Travel Advisor Denise Booth, it’s the blend of warm hospitality, luminous landscapes, and quietly luxurious living. Fresh off her journey through Naxos, Paros, and the Athenian Riviera, she shares three experiences that showcase Greece beyond the guidebooks—intimate, delicious, and endlessly photogenic.

 1. Cooking with a Local Family in Naxos

“This is the type of place where the son welcomes you with an aperitif and freshly made tzatziki and pita, then the father takes you to the farm to show you where all of the ingredients are sourced. Then the mother is like, ‘Stop talking, it's time to cook,’ and she takes you around back into her little kitchen and the big tables are set up for our cooking class. And her sister is helping her teach the class and then her nephew is cleaning all the plates from the table. The point of this cooking class wasn't just like a hands-on experience—it was to see the way that the entire family works together. They can't wait to help you to not only taste, but experience what it's like to cook real Greek food. We made tzatziki, meatballs, zucchini balls, lamb shank with stuffed vegetables. Not to sound quaint, but you just felt good eating this food.”

2. A Meander Through Paros

“Paros is so picturesque, it’s one of the most Instagrammed locations in Greece. All the houses are required to be white by law, and they’re set against the colorful flowers and colorful boats—everything is so beautiful. It’s so spectacular for many reasons. Yes, the wine and the seafood, but even the shopping feels more special than in other port towns—these shops do not feel like souvenir shops. Another perfect way to spend the day there is on a sail to Antiparos. You can stop at the Blue Lagoons for swimming, have a late lunch, and just float in the water. And all of these boats have flotation devices not just for safety, but for relaxation.”

3. A Stay at Cape Sounio on the Athenian Riviera

“Usually you have to fly into Athens before you get to the islands, so most people think of Athens as your starting point. They stay there for a night, they see the Acropolis, and then they move on. But the Athenian Riviera is another really incredible opportunity just 45 minutes outside of Athens. I stayed there at the end of my trip rather than in Athens. The minute I arrived, my whole heart rate came down. The beaches are amazing, the wine is amazing, the spa and treatment rooms are amazing, even the breakfast is amazing. It’s a great destination for wellness—Gwyneth Paltrow recently stayed there too!”

Golf, in its purest form, is about more than a scorecard. It’s about the stories the game collects: the putt sunk against a backdrop of crashing waves, a winning moment that lingers long after sunset, the shared adventure that bonds a group for life. For WhirlAway Travel, these moments are the very heart of curated golf vacations. As a Luxury Travel Advisor, Alison Warner specializes in golf vacations. Here, she shares five reasons why you should start planning your next golf escape.

Over six packed days, they went fly fishing, biked mountain trails, raced UTVs, and rappelled through canyons—all at Zayne’s direction. He planned the itinerary (nonstop action), curated the meals (burgers and sushi, please), and even selected their rental car: a white Ford Mustang. They spent the first four nights in the luxe comfort of Montage Deer Valley, then roadtripped to Zion and glamped for two nights at Under Canvas Zion. Here, Jamie and Zayne share their favorite moments, their biggest laughs, and why mother-son travel just might be the ultimate bonding experience.

1. Do listen to your guide. Your safari guide is basically a wilderness wizard. If they say “stay in the vehicle,” this is not the time for a TikTok dance in front of a lion. Guides have years of training, they know the behavior of animals intimately, and they know how to reverse a Land Rover faster than you can say, “Is that a leopard?” >>Don’t run. Ever. You are not faster than a lion. You are not faster than a zebra. Honestly, you are probably not even faster than a warthog. Running triggers a predator response. Translation: You could go from tourist with binoculars to buffet item in three seconds flat. This is a hard no.

Everyone talks about going on safari. But not everyone tells you how it feels—to experience a languid afternoon with winemakers who forgo the norm, to watch a lioness cradle her cub across the plains, to luxuriate in a Versace-drenched suite in the Winelands where the bathtub rivals the size of a Manhattan studio. WhirlAway’s Stacey Blum (whose job is to vet the best of the best) recently spent two weeks on an indelible journey through South Africa with Abercrombie & Kent. She discovered a symphony of wow factors—equal parts city, bush, and bliss. These five moments rose to the top as her most exclusive, most unexpected, and most unforgettable.
